WEBINAR: Diabetes Prevention, Early identification and Lifestyle Intervention

SNHN invites general practitioners, practice nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals to a webinar covering:

  • Early identification of diabetes

  • Management of pre-diabetes

  • Strategies to delay disease progression

  • Preventative health strategies and lifestyle management including diet, nutrition and exercise

SPEAKERS:

Dr Natassia Rodrigo is a Clinical Endocrinologist, with a particular focus in metabolic disease including diabetes, obesity and insulin resistance and pregnancy related endocrinology.  She has a strong belief in evidence-based, patient-centered care, working closely with individuals to  achieve the best outcome.  Dr Rodrigo has appointments at the Northern Sydney Endocrine Centre and as a Staff Specialist in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Nepean Hospital, where she is the clinical lead for Endocrinology in Pregnancy. She is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Dr Andrea Matthews is a general practitioner (MBBS, FRACGP, FASLM, BSc.APP (Biomed) and ELIA Lifestyle Medicine Centre Medical Doctor. Dr Matthews is passionate about prevention and lifestyle interventions and working closely with multidisciplinary teams. She completed her MBBS at University of Sydney; Internship and Residency completed at Royal North Shore Hospital; Fellowship in General Practice through the RACGP; International Board Certification in Lifestyle Medicine and is currently undertaking her Post Graduate Diploma in Lifestyle Medicine.

Cassandra Wong is an Exercise Physiologist (AEP, AES) with ELIA Lifestyle Medicine Centre at Sydney Adventist Hospital. Cassandra  graduated from the University of NSW with a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Cassandra has a passion for promoting health and well-being through physical activity and aims to empower individuals  to make sustainable, positive lifestyle changes and promote a holistic approach to health.

Jane Freeman is an accredited Dietician (BSc, Grad.Dip. Diet & Nutr, IOC, Grad.Dip Sports Nutr, M Mgt (APD) at ELIA Lifestyle Medicine Centre at Sydney Adventist Hospital. Jane has over 25 years of personalising dietary advice around complex needs and preferences. She is rigorous and scientific in her approach, as well as sympathetic and practical.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Identify and diagnose Diabetes early

  • Describe how to manage pre-diabetes

  • Utilise preventative health strategies into lifestyle management for the treatment of Diabetes and pre-diabetes

  • Describe how to manage pre-diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance
