Healthy Habits for the New Year
How to achieve your New Year’s Resolution.
As we come into a new year, it is a time to reflect on what we would like to achieve this year and set new year’s resolutions.
But do you find it hard to make these resolutions and goals achievable? Here are some tips that can help you increase the likelihood of keeping your New Year’s resolutions and goals!
1. Be specific:
Clearly outline and define your goals. Rather than have a broad resolution, break it down into specific actionable steps.
2. Set realistic goals:
Make sure that your resolution is achievable as unrealistic expectations can cause frustration and decrease motivation.
3. Share your goals:
Let your friends and family know about your resolution. Extrinsic motivation and support can provide extra encouragement, support, and accountability.
4. Create a plan:
Outline and list the steps that you need to do to achieve your resolution. Having a road map can help you stay on track.
5. Start small:
Set manageable tasks. Small victories can help provide momentum and confidence to continue.
6. Track your progress:
Regular tracking holds you more accountable and can highlight or identify patterns in your behaviour that may be influencing your progress allowing you to adjust your efforts or strategies to stay on course. Plus seeing measurable progress can help motivation and can provide a sense of accomplishment.
7. Stay consistent:
Consistency helps in forming new habits as repetition can help embed new behaviours and routines.
8. Anticipate setbacks:
Understand that challenges and setbacks happen. Have strategies in place to overcome these obstacles and stay motivated.
9. Reward yourself:
Acknowledge your achievements along the way! Positive reinforcement can reinforce good habits and prevent burnout. Rewards offer a break, allowing you to recharge and stay motivated.
10. Stay flexible:
Be open to adjusting your goals as life happens and circumstances change. Being able to adapt is important for long-term success!
So, as we come into 2024 ask yourself if there are any goals or aspirations in the past year that you aspire to achieve now. It is not about dwelling on what you haven’t done, but understanding that with defined steps, you can map out your journey and achieve your goals!
